Jason DeCuir Named to Louisiana Governor-Elect’s Fiscal Transition Team

Press Release Dec 22, 2015

Dallas, Texas – Jason DeCuir, Director of Public Affairs for Ryan, a leading global tax services firm, has been named to Louisiana Governor-Elect John Bel Edwards’ fiscal transition team to help advise him on budgetary issues as he prepares to take office January 11, 2016. Edwards’ transition committee on fiscal affairs will be tasked with finding ways that the state could address the budget deficit, fund K-12 and higher education, and improve access to healthcare.

This announcement follows Mr. DeCuir’s August appointment to the Louisiana Sales Tax Streamlining and Modernization Commission where he was asked to make recommendations for how changes in state and local sales tax policy can better position Louisiana for the future in terms of equity and economic competitiveness.

“Jason DeCuir plays an active role shaping tax policy and protecting the rights of our clients and taxpayers across the county,” said G. Brint Ryan, Chairman and CEO of Ryan. “His vast expertise will provide valuable insight to help Governor-Elect Edwards strengthen the state’s fiscal processes.”

Prior to joining Ryan, Mr. DeCuir served as Chief of Staff, Assistant Secretary and Executive Counsel for the Louisiana Department of Revenue (LDR). Prior to departing LDR, Mr. DeCuir played a prominent role in reforming the structure for tax appeals in the state of Louisiana, increasing the state’s COST scorecard from that of a “D-” to a “B.” In 2013, Mr. DeCuir was tasked by Governor Jindal to help spearhead his tax reform efforts. In addition to his experience in the public sector with the LDR, Mr. DeCuir has worked in the private sector as a tax attorney in several law firms and was the founder of a consulting firm that advised corporations on governmental matters. Mr. DeCuir has a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Howard University, a Master of Business Administration degree from Louisiana Tech University, a Juris Doctor degree and a Bachelor of Civil Law degree from the Louisiana State University Paul M. Hebert Law Center, and a Master of Laws degree in Taxation from Georgetown University Law Center.
