Alberta Addresses Unpaid Property Taxes in the Oil and Gas Industry

On April 27, 2023, the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) announced that, effective May 1, 2023, it requires evidence that licensees have resolved any unpaid property taxes exceeding an initial threshold amount of $20,000 before a new well or well license transfer application can be approved.

The new requirements apply to both new well license and well license transfer applications.
