Matt Cwiertnia is a partner and head of the Ares Private Equity Group. He serves on the Ares Operating Committee; the Ares Private Equity Group’s Corporate Opportunities, Energy Opportunities, and Extended Value Investment Committees; and the Ares Credit Group’s Opportunistic Credit Investment Committee. Matt brings a disciplined investor perspective shaped by nearly two decades of private equity leadership and board-level involvement across a range of industries.
Prior to joining Ares in 2005, Matt held investment banking roles at Credit Suisse First Boston; Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette; and Jefferies & Co., advising financial sponsors and their portfolio companies on strategic transactions and financing. He currently serves on the boards of the parent entities of Convergint Technologies, CoolSys, Resource Label Group, Automated Industrial Robotics Holding, and The Lockwood Group. He previously served on the boards of Valet Living and Insight Global. Matt holds a Bachelor of Arts degree, magna cum laude, from the University of California Los Angeles in business economics and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of California Los Angeles, Anderson School of Management, where he currently serves on the Board of Advisors.
