Alberta has issued this special notice regarding the tobacco tax increases, as announced in the 2009 Alberta budget. Effective at 12:01 a.m. April 8, 2009, tobacco tax will increase on cigarettes and tobacco sticks to 20 cents from 18.5 cents for each cigarette or tobacco stick; loose tobacco will rise by 11.5 cents to 30 cents per gram; and the taxable price of cigars will rise to 103% from 95%.
