On March 19, 2009 Premier Dennis Fentie tabled the 2009-2010 Budget as the largest budget in Yukon’s history, exceeding $1 billion. Even with the challenging economic times, the budget will be consistent with the past seven years, reflecting a forecast surplus.
The budget will concentrate on the continued stimulation of the private sector economy which will include investment in economic, social and public infrastructure, specifically in tourism, mining and forestry as well as transportation and communication infrastructure. Education, health and social services have also been addressed to improve the quality of life for Yukoners. Finally, the protection and preservation of the environment and wildlife was also included to balance out the economic development.
