The province of British Columbia has updated and renamed this bulletin to clarify the application of the municipal and regional district hotel room tax in participating areas of the province after implementation of the harmonized sales tax (HST) on July 1, 2010.
This bulletin provides specific information to help municipalities; regional districts and other eligible entities understand how they can participate in the collection of a municipal and regional district tax of up to 2% on taxable accommodation. In addition, this bulletin provides specific information to help operators of hotels, motels and other lodgings understand how this tax applies to their business.
