Manitoba Updates its Publication on Clothing, Footwear and Accessories 

A recent update to the Retail Sales Tax (“RST”) Information Bulletin No. 001, “Clothing, Footwear and Accessories” was released by Manitoba Finance in order to alert retailers to an important federal regulation.  The note added to this bulletin explains that personal information collected to substantiate the age-based children’s clothing exemption should be treated as confidential and protected as such.  A log or petition style form where customers are able to see the personal information of others having completed the form does not meet the federal privacy standards governed by the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act.  A separate certification form for each customer is preferable.
