Alberta Budget 2012

Tax Development Feb 09, 2012

Alberta’s Minister of Finance, Ron Liepert, introduced his first budget on February 9, 2012.  In what will likely be the last budget before this spring’s provincial general election, no new taxes or increases in tax rates were announced.  Alberta continues to pride itself in having no provincial sales tax or payroll taxes.

Despite the lack of tax changes, the province is planning on increased tax revenue from sources other than income tax and property tax during this budget period.  It is noted that the increase will be caused by changes to the province’s population and an upturn in the economy.
