The Ontario Ministry of Finance recently published “Basic Rules for Tobacco Retail Dealers”, which provides general information for tobacco retailers, including information on what retailers may (and must not) sell, the consequences for breaching the law, inspections, and dealing with assessments.
This document also provides specific information on the temporary prohibition program, where retailers who repeatedly violate of the Tobacco Tax Act or the Smoke-Free Ontario Act (SFOA) may be subject to temporary prohibitions from sell tobacco products.
