The Government of Nova Scotia has released a report, entitled “What We Heard Report: Nova Scotia Cap and Trade Design Options”. As a result, the provincial government has signaled their intentions not to implement a carbon tax program, and will instead implement their own cap-and-trade program. Nova Scotia expects that 20 companies will participate in this program to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
At the present time, Nova Scotia has not expressed any interest in joining the Western Climate Initiative, a common marketplace for carbon allowances that will include California, Quebec, and Ontario in 2018.
