Global Affairs Canada Issues Statement on Steel and Aluminum Tariffs

The United States and Canada have reached an agreement to eliminate duties on steel and aluminum that were imposed by the United States under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962 (19 U.S.C. §1862) and by Canada in retaliation to the United States tariffs. In addition, Canada has agreed to eliminate all additional tariffs imposed on certain products originating in the United States in retaliation to the Section 232 action. These tariffs were to be removed no later than 48 hours after the release of the statement announcing this agreement, which was issued on May 17, 2019.
