Northwest Territories Releases its Approach to Carbon Pricing

The Government of Northwest Territories released its “Made-in-the-North” plan for carbon pricing. Under this plan, a carbon tax will be introduced in the territory, effective September 1, 2019, based on $20/tonne of greenhouse gas emissions. Rebates for carbon tax paid will be available to heating fuel purchases and purchases of fuel made by NWT Power Corporation. In addition, aviation fuel will be excluded from the carbon tax base.
