Nunavut Budget 2019

Tax Development Feb 25, 2019

On February 20, 2019, the Honourable George Hickes, Minister of Finance, presented Nunavut’s budget for 2019-20.

This year’s budget focuses on work for individuals and communities, including several initiatives to promote economic growth and help prepare people for future jobs.

The budget includes no new taxes or tax increases, and no changes to cannabis, tobacco, or carbon taxes were announced.

The federal government’s carbon pricing rules will take effect later this year, and Nunavut expects the carbon tax to generate about $15 million for the territory.

Nunavut is anticipating strong economic growth for the next several years, predicated on population growth and further investment in public infrastructure, such as ports and airports, and the resource sector.
