Tax Development Jul 25, 2019

The Nunavut Department of Finance has issued “The Carbon Tax in Nunavut Frequently Asked Questions” to discuss the application of carbon tax to supplies of fossil fuels in the territory and the impact of the tax on residents.

The federal carbon tax became effective in Nunavut on July 1, 2019 and will increase annually through 2022. The Nunavut Carbon Rebate applies to gasoline and home heating fuel as a point-of-sale rebate.  Electricity and aviation fuel are excluded from the carbon tax in Nunavut due to the territory’s unique environment.
