The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) continues to support Canadians during the pandemic by extending payment due dates for 2019 or 2020 corporation and trust returns and for 2019 individual tax returns and, including installment payments, from September 1, 2020 to September 30, 2020. This extension applies only to the payment due dates; the return filing due dates remain unchanged from the previously extended dates. However, the CRA will not impose late filing penalties for where any of these returns are filed late, provided they are filed by September 30, 2020.
Similarly, Québec will extend the deadline for the payment of tax balances and instalments for corporations, trusts, and individuals to September 30, 2020 from September 1, 2020.
Alberta has also announced they are extending the deferral of corporate income tax payments and installment payments due on or after March 18, 2020 through to September 30, 2020 from the previous extended date of August 31, 2020. Interest and penalties will not be applied where these payments are made by September 30, 2020. The filing deadline for these returns remain unchanged.
