If you have properties in Atlantic Canada, there are key property tax deadlines approaching for Prince Edward Island (PEI) as well as Newfoundland and Labrador that you should be aware of.
PEI properties are revalued annually. This year, notices of value for 2025 taxation were mailed May 12, and the deadline to appeal is August 5. In Newfoundland and Labrador, the notices of assessment that were mailed in June show the value that will be used to calculate taxes in the following year. The City of St. John’s revalues every two years. The values released this year will be used for taxation in 2026 and 2027. Appeals can be filed each year; the deadline to file an appeal that will impact 2026 taxation is August 8, 2025. However, the rest of Newfoundland and Labrador is revalued annually, and the deadline to appeal for the 2026 taxation year is August 10, 2025.
