Canada Border Services Agency Offers Webinars on New Client Portal

Tax Development May 06, 2021

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) is moving forward with the launch of its CBSA Assessment and Revenue Management (CARM) client portal. This self-service tool is part of the overall CARM initiative to simplify and modernize the Canadian import process.

The first release of the client portal, targeted for May 25, 2021, will be made available to importers, customs brokers, and certain trade consultants. The new system will allow importers to perform the following tasks electronically:

  • View account transactions;
  • Make payments;
  • Delegate access to those responsible for managing commercial imports;
  • Classify goods;
  • Estimate duties and taxes; and
  • Request or follow-up on rulings.

A future release (expected in 2022) will be made available to all participants in the import process and provide greater functionality, including the ability to submit or adjust a Commercial and Accounting Declaration (CAD), which will replace current customs forms B3 (declaration) and B2 (request for adjustment).

To facilitate implementation of the client portal, the CBSA is hosting a series of webinars in advance of the launch. The webinars will cover account creation, delegation of authority, and other resources. Registration in advance is required. The webinar schedule, as provided by the CBSA, can be found below.
