British Columbia recently revised Bulletin MFT-CT 005, “Tax Rates on Fuels,” to provide clarification on how carbon tax applies in the province.

Effective April 1, 2019, 8.89 cents per litre will be charged as the carbon tax on clear and colored gasoline, while 10.23 cents per litre will be charged on locomotive fuel, marine diesel fuel, and marine gas oil, as well as clear and colored diesel. The bulletin also contains information on the carbon tax rates applicable to other motor fuels, natural gas, and substances not used in internal combustion engines.

The carbon tax rates are scheduled to increase on an annual basis (on April 1st) until 2021.
