The 1% increase to California’s sales tax, which has been in place since 2009, expires June 30, 2011. California Governor Jerry Brown’s May 2011 revisions to his proposed budget sought to extend the 1% increase for an additional five years. The sales tax extension was not included in Senate Bill 69 or Assembly Bill 98, which together form the California budget passed by the Legislature and vetoed by Governor Brown on June 16, 2011.
