Tennessee: Shelby County Commission Approves Historic Reappraisal Change

On June 7, 2021, the Shelby County Commission voted eight to five to move from a four-year to a two-year reappraisal cycle. While the vote still must be approved by the Tennessee Comptroller, all signs are pointing to the county being the first in the state to move to a biennial revaluation. Shelby County Assessor Melvin Burgess believes this change will help property owners recover from the pandemic while also allowing the county to maximize revenue projections from the property tax levy.
