Ryan and Concur Create New Guide to Canadian Tax

Press Release Nov 03, 2015

Toronto, CanadaRyan, a leading global tax services firm, and Concur, the world’s leading provider of integrated travel and expense management solutions and services, have jointly authored a new eBook entitled, “Canadian Taxes and Expense Reporting.” This new eBook provides readers with insight into the complexities of managing goods and services tax (GST)/harmonized sales tax (HST), and Quebec sales tax (QST) with regards to employee expense reimbursements. It also includes best practices to minimize audit risk and avoid leaving money on the table.

“The tax rules surrounding employee expense reimbursements are complicated, and this is an area that auditors play close attention to,” said Garry Round, President of Ryan’s Canadian operations. “Yet many companies use antiquated systems and homemade Excel spreadsheets to try to manage the processing and accounting of expense reimbursements, which frequently lead to over-claimed and unrecovered tax or audit assessments.”

One solution to this pain point is for companies to implement a system that helps remove the human element in the expense reporting process, which is where Concur and Ryan can help.

“Concur’s solution allows companies to bake tax rules right into its expense reporting software, which increases efficiencies,” said Mr. Round. “With 40 years of tax experience, Ryan is in a market-leading position to recommend best practices for applying tax law to a company’s Concur system to ensure organizations are mitigating risk and recovering the tax they’re entitled to.”

The eBook, “Canadian Taxes and Expense Reporting,” is available to download at no cost. For a related blog post by Concur about this topic, click here.

“We are thrilled to be able to offer this valuable resource that combines the expertise of two financial services market leaders,” said Mr. Round. “Ryan’s unparalleled tax knowledge, together with the advantages of managing expense reporting in the cloud that Concur offers, can significantly help taxpayers overcome the challenges of Canadian tax law.”
