Ryan and IPT Establish the Sam Birchfield Endowment for CMI Property Tax Candidates to Honor the Life and Legacy of Ryan Principal and Property Tax Practice Leader

Press Release Sep 11, 2008

Dallas, Texas - Mr. Samuel P. Birchfield loved sharing his vast tax knowledge, devoting countless personal hours during his career as Ryan Principal and Property Tax Practice Leader to support the development of property tax professionals across the United States.

To honor Mr. Birchfield’s life and outstanding career in property tax consulting, Ryan and the Institute for Professionals in Taxation (IPT) have established the Sam Birchfield Endowment for CMI Property Tax Candidates. This endowment will provide deserving property tax professionals across the United States with the ability to further their development by defraying registration fee expenses for IPT schools and courses required for the Certified Member of the Institute (CMI) exams. Before his passing, Mr. Birchfield had the opportunity to help define the endowment’s charter and philosophy, and was very proud to know this type of legacy would continue.

Mr. Birchfield, 58, passed away on Sunday, September 7, 2008 of pancreatic cancer, survived by his loving spouse Judy; daughters Cara and Heather; son-in-law Jason; grandchildren Morgan, Samuel, Destinee, and Aiden; as well as the Ryan family of employees and tax professionals all across the United States who benefited from Mr. Birchfield’s devotion to property tax education through IPT.

“Sam’s leadership as the Chair of the IPT Property Tax Academy since its inception has played a major role in the program’s effectiveness, and every member of IPT deeply mourns his passing,” said Billy Cook, Executive Director of IPT. “Sam’s long-time service on the CMI Professional Designation Committee has advanced IPT goals and educational objectives. He was one of the most effective educational leaders in the history of our association.”

“The Ryan family lost an outstanding professional and a beloved friend, and he will be sadly missed by our employees, clients, and the entire tax industry as well,” said G. Brint Ryan, Managing Principal of Ryan. “Everyone at Ryan is committed to ensuring Sam’s legacy will live on, honoring his life and contributions to our Firm by continuing to provide outstanding client service while growing his Property Tax practice.”

A graveside service and burial will be held on Monday, September 15, 2008 at the National Cemetery in Grand Prairie, Texas.
