Dallas, Texas -- Ryan, the leading tax services firm in North America, with the largest transaction tax practice in the United States and Canada, today announced that the Firm was honored with the 2009 Alfred P. Sloan Award for Business Excellence in Workplace Flexibility. This prestigious award recognizes employers in Dallas and across the country that successfully use workplace flexibility as a strategy to increase workplace effectiveness and yield positive business results.
Applicants were evaluated in a rigorous two-step process, first comparing the employer’s application to nationally representative data from the Families and Work Institute’s National Study of Employers, and then corroborating the employer responses through an employee survey. As a winner, Ryan ranked in the top 20% of employers nationally in terms of flexible work programs, policies, and culture and will be featured in next year’s edition of the Guide to Bold New Ideas for Making Work Work, published by the Families and Work Institute.
In August 2008, Ryan launched myRyan, an innovative work environment that changed the measurement of work performance from hours worked to results achieved. The Firm rolled out myRyan to 800 employees across North America and Europe as a major culture shift designed to reach even higher levels of client service and employee satisfaction. Through collaboration and support, Ryan employees thrive in a guilt-free workplace in which the focus is on delivering results and superior client service, rather than where and when the work is done. With a clear understanding of expectations and accountabilities, Ryan employees are given ownership of their time and flexibility to balance their professional and personal lives.
Since its inception, myRyan has delivered tremendous dividends for the Firm, its clients, and its employees. Ryan has dramatically improved employee retention and satisfaction, while demonstrating solid year-over-year revenue growth. Most importantly, Ryan employees have achieved the highest client satisfaction ratings in the history of the Firm, while enjoying the freedom to meet the competing demands of work and life.
“We are honored to be recognized with this award for our innovative work environment, and especially proud of the resulting improvements in client service,” said G. Brint Ryan, CEO and Managing Principal of Ryan. “In exchange for incredible flexibility and freedom, every Ryan employee has accepted responsibility and accountability for producing superior results, and our clients are benefiting as an outcome.”
The Alfred P. Sloan Award for Business Excellence in Workplace Flexibility is part of the When Work Works project, an ongoing initiative of the Families and Work Institute, the Institute for a Competitive Workforce (an affiliate of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce), and the Twiga Foundation. Through When Work Works, these partner organizations provide research, resources, and recognition to employers nationwide. The project shares the results of research on creating effective and flexible workplaces that meet the needs of the 21st century.
